US Paper Weight Equivalents
Important Note
US paper weights vary by paper type because each type uses a different sheet size as its basis. The same GSM paper will have different pound weights depending on whether it's classified as Bond, Text, or Cover stock. Always confirm which paper type your US printer is referencing.

Why Multiple US Weights?
The US system measures paper weight based on 500 sheets (a ream) cut to different "basis sizes":
- • Bond/Writing: 17" × 22" (used for stationery, endpapers)
- • Text/Book: 25" × 38" (standard for book interiors)
- • Cover: 20" × 26" (used for book covers, cards)
Most book printers use the Text/Book weight, but always verify which system they're using.
Pro Tips for Working with US Printers
- • Always specify both the weight AND the paper type (e.g., "60 lb text" not just "60 lb")
- • Request paper samples before ordering – actual feel can vary between manufacturers
- • US printers often have minimum order quantities that differ from European standards
- • Factor in that US standard trim sizes differ from ISO sizes used in Europe
